College of Charleston Cougars get into a scuffle with the James Madison University Dukes following the Cougars’ buzzer beater victory at Thursday night’s game.
The Colonial Athletic Association has suspended two college basketball players from their next games following a brawl that broke out after the Cougars’ 74-72 comeback win tonight.
The College of Charleston men’s basketball team beat conference rival James Madison University at its annual “Blackout game,” when a brawl broke out during the post-game handshake.
CofC forward Brevin Galloway shoved JMU guard Stuckey Mosley after Mosley tripped CofC guard Grant Riller.
Mosley then punched Galloway, which led to players jumping into the fray in a brawl that lasted three minutes before security could break it up.
“I didn’t see that coming but that didn’t really bother me,” Riller said about being tripped.
Coach Earl Grant was the only one to suffer any minor injury when he got elbowed in his left eye while helping guards break up the fight.
Along with the suspension of Galloway and Mosley, four Cougar players (including Jarrell Brantley, Grant Riller, Marquise Pointer and Sam Miller) won’t be able to play until the second half of the upcoming game against Towson as punishment.
“It is unacceptable. Our kids need to learn to control their emotions, so they can maintain control in a game. I’m sending a message – if you can’t control yourself, you can’t play,” said Grant. “It’s half of a game, and the rest of the guys will have to step up knowing five of their peers won’t be able to help.”
The Cougars take on the Townson Tigers, Saturday, Feb. 2, at home at 4 PM.
